THE NORTHERN SHORES OF DATÇA PENINSULA

The shoreline from east to west is 35 mile long and ends at the magnificient Point Deveboynu. High and craggy mountains Mount Kocadağ and Karadağ lie towards the west and drop sheer into the sea. The new and old settlements like Emecik, Reşadiye and Datça are situated on this flat plain. Then the mountains rise up and gently descend towards western tip of peninsula and end by the İskandil and Deveboynu Points. The shore line is lee from breeze. They are inhospitable. The coves with shelter are Gölyeri, Körmen and Mersincik. The passage between Datça Peninsula and Kos Island is lee from breeze. The winds are funneled down from the mountain and causes sever gusts and choppy sea. Only Körmen Limanı affords relative sheltering from the prevailing wind.
