Marmaris is Ready: ERGO MIYC Winter Trophy Final Leg

The Marmaris course is ready for the 6th and final leg of the ERGO MIYC Winter Trophy.

The meteorology shows no adverse conditions for the race days for a week now.

In fact, the wind has already started to show its strength a day in advance.

23 boats have registered for the final leg.

PARTICIPATION AS SUMMER APPROACHES?

The briefing at the MIYC facilities on Saturday, May 12, takes place with fewer participants compared to previous ones.

Chief Race Officer Can GİRAY begins by saying, "Our numbers are gradually decreasing."

Many boats and crews that participated in the trophy throughout winter are now busy with their work.

Giray says:

"We had a wonderful trophy season and we've reached the end.

If we can complete 3 races in this leg, we will have finished a total of 16 races without incident.

Thank you all very much. Marmaris is one of the places I enjoy managing races the most.

We happily serve the participants, the course, and the club management.

We don't know anything about the routes until we go out to sea.

Everything is decided based on course conditions.

FREEDOMS AND DEMOCRACY COURSE

No phone calls or anything come from anywhere around here.

We can call it the Freedoms and Democracy course.

The names of club managers change, but the general attitude of the club doesn't change."

MOORING LINES CAST OFF WITH SADNESS

MARMARIS WATERS ARE COY

Today we are expecting northerly winds, but the waters off Marmaris are being coy.

This committee doesn't care about being coy or not, head to the waters off Yalancı Boğaz.

The wind is strong in this location.

The course is being prepared, the fleet has already moved to this location.

Start procedures are beginning immediately.

Route R 2 from MIYC Routes will be raced.

A route where you can find anything in the bay - triangle, sausage, whatever you're looking for.

Approximately 6 nautical miles.

Start procedures begin with wind blowing from 320 degrees at 9-12 knots.

IRC 1 and 2 start at 11:35, IRC 3 and 4 start at 11:40.

With an upwind start, the fleet heads toward mark number 1.

After rounding mark number 1, they sail almost parallel to the shore with spinnakers off Marmaris beach.

SPINNAKERS' TEST WITH SQUALLS

The spinnakers navigate between the large yachts at anchor and in the open, passing through them at times as they head toward the mark off Mares Hotel.p>

First, the wind has dropped according to those ahead of Yalancı Boğaz. In fact, the spinnakers of the boats slightly behind the leaders have already started to collapse.

These areas are where westerly and northerly winds typically play tricks on the course.

And finally the expected trick arrives, and the air that deflated those sails suddenly tries to blow out the spinnakers.

BLOW OUT A SPINNAKER

Those caught unprepared, or rather LEADER and KABASAKAL who were in the most affected area of the squall, are blowing out their spinnakers right in front of us.

Those who see this scene ahead of them are urgently dropping their spinnakers. In fact, they're having difficulties with the drops.

ÇİĞDEM RETURNS TO THE NEST

As preparations for the 2nd Race begin, the Press Boat picks up our dear Çiğdem YURTSEVER from the marina.

Çiğdem has been away from the race courses, races, and press boats for 1 month following a minor accident in Bodrum.

The longing is over and we're returning to the course.

The Committee announces the G 1 course from the MIYC Routes for the day's 2nd Race.

The start line is in front of Yalancı Boğaz.

The wind has started blowing from 285 degrees and stronger than in the 1st Race.

After rounding the windward mark 1.3 nautical miles ahead, the fleet will exit the harbor through the strait, round Karga Taşı Island, and finish in the inner harbor.

Approximately 12 nautical miles.

During the final minute of the start sequence for IRC 1 and 2 classes, the boats are crowding toward the committee boat side.

We're witnessing aggressive maneuvers and risky moves. Voices are at their peak.

When the fleet reaches the start line, they unintentionally cross the start line almost as a block, but the committee doesn't stay idle and postpones the start.

WISE WORDS

There are no collisions in the big pile-up, but there are many who hear wise words and lessons.

At 14:15, IRC 1 and 2 start, and at 14:20, IRC 3 and 4 execute their starts.

KAÇAMAK and BLUE BIRD 2-ERGO are forepart.

After the boats round the windward mark, the wind returns to its capricious and mischievous ways.

Spinnakers are collapsing and filling alternately.

The fleet exiting the strait begins to finish by rounding Karga Taşı Island and entering the harbor, with winds that don't drop below a certain strength but blow from different directions depending on the location.

At the finish moments, the wind strengthens considerably, causing the boats to experience challenging moments from time to time.

On Sunday, May 13th, the weather is the same. No changes whatsoever.

A single race is planned for today, which will complete the trophy finals.

The start line is off Yalancı Boğaz.

Wind is blowing from 255 degrees at 6-12 knots.

The committee announces that MIYC Route 4 C will be sailed.

At 11:45, IRC 1 and 2 classes start, at 11:50, IRC 3 and 4 classes execute their starts.

SLOW MOTION START

In the light wind start, the fleet enters the course gracefully.

As the wind increases its effect, the relentless competition continues breathlessly.

In the last race of the trophy, it's impossible to see fatigue or weariness in the fleet.

Everyone is doing their best, striving to sail their boats as fast as possible.

This time, the waters off Marmaris affect the course with strong winds.

Spinnaker runs and the competition provide spectacular views.
