KEKOVA PARADISE: The Endless Battle Against Illegal Coastal Construction
Aerial and Ground Documentation of Unauthorized Development in Turkey's Protected Maritime Heritage
Aerial and ground footage we captured of the unique Kekova Bays, which have recently come to the forefront due to rampant illegal construction.
The zoning problem we have frequently encountered for years in this and similar coastal regions is before us once again.
We hear from local residents the reality that married children have to establish their homes with their parents in their houses because healthy zoning regulations cannot be implemented.
New construction is prohibited.
The endless fate of local people who have not gone to prison for zoning violations, who have not received a criminal record, continues on our coasts.
In contrast, we see again on our coasts the familiar behavior of those who seize power, who dare, and who use it.
Everywhere has been declared a Protected Area. No one approaches or dares to undertake any regulation. This goes on for years.
If it were to be regulated, profiteers would take the stage, it is feared. Because it cannot be supervised fairly.
Prohibition is the easiest.
Illegal is the most comfortably spoken.
