On Wednesday, January 20, 2021, while intensive search operations were continuing for the boat stolen from Izmir Dalyankoy,

news arrived regarding the boat's location.

WE HAD READ THE DETAILS OF A SIMILAR ATTEMPT THAT TOOK PLACE IN ISTANBUL ON THE TURKSAIL WEBSITE BY SERDAR BAPOĞLU

The individuals who had made the same attempt in Istanbul some time ago, this time carried out their plans in Cesme.

The individual, whose trial continues in Istanbul under judicial control conditions related to boat theft, transfers the boat he stole from Cesme to a Russian national.

This person takes the boat out of Turkish territorial waters and navigates towards Athens..

The boat was surrounded and seized during an inspection by the Greek Coast Guard at the Greek island of Tinos, and the incident came to light

when Greek authorities contacted the relevant Turkish insurance company from the boat's insurance records.

In their latest update to boat owner Umit Kemal Coskun, insurance officials reported that the boat was caught at Tinos Island belonging to Greece,

with only a Russian national on board.

In this way, the previously reported news that there were migrants aboard the boat has proven to be unfounded.

This is the fresh and latest news.

It is observed that the island where the boat was found is 70-75 nm away from where it was stolen in Turkey.

Presumably, this distance could be covered in 10-12 hours in rough weather conditions.

Estimates suggest that the boat stopped by Gerence area for provisioning after leaving Dalyankoy,

then set sail and departed Turkish waters.

RUSSIAN-TURKISH COOPERATION?

It is now known, according to information provided by the insurance company, that those who took the boat from Dalyankoy were not aboard during this voyage,

as the vessel is currently being held under control in Tinos Island.

Of course, Greek authorities are also informing this company about the matter.

THEY WOULD FIRST RENT, THEN STEAL

It is known that for a long time, networks of Russian and Ukrainian nationals have been stealing boats from our coasts, particularly those they have rented, and smuggling them out of the country.

These individuals have sufficient technical knowledge to disable any tracking devices that may be on the rented boats.

For this reason, the boats are only noticed once they have left Turkish waters.

Considering that such a rental would not make sense at this time of the season, the reason for choosing this method becomes clear.

These boats are later sold in other countries after changing registration, or used as transfer vehicles in illegal operations.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO OUR SERIAL THIEF?

The question on everyone's mind is whether the individual involved in both incidents will once again slip away with judicial control conditions.

STATEMENTS FROM TURKISH AUTHORITIES ARE AWAITED

Currently learning about the developments only through notifications from Greek authorities, the boat owner believes he will learn the details of the developments regarding the matter from Turkish

Authorities.

Dear sailors, we must now be even more careful about the increasing boat thefts.

It is worth reminding; smugglers can no longer easily find boats for these operations and are resorting to these methods.

We hope what has been experienced will be a lesson to all of us and everyone who may be concerned.

We also need to know very well the scope of the mooring contracts and hull insurance policies made.

For now, while we wish Captain Ümit Kemal Coşkun well, we hope he quickly overcomes the distressing and tedious formalities and is reunited with his boat as soon as possible.
