CAMPUS CUP POSTPONED BY ONE DAY DUE TO WEATHER
CAMPUS CUP TA BİR GÜNLÜK TEHİR TOKA

Campus Cup Started Exactly 14 Years Ago.
It carries the purpose of introducing and connecting university youth with the seas.
For years, Marmaris International Yacht Club (MIYC) has carried out these races as a social responsibility project with revenues obtained from other races and events.

In recent years, the races have been held under the main sponsorship of Nurol Bank.
However, the club continues to maintain this event by making certain expenditures beyond the contribution received from the sponsor.

Financial support is provided to participating university teams so they can come and race.
Everyone makes an effort for university youth.

Teams from different universities across Turkey participate in Campus Cup.
Young sailors continue to wave the flag they inherited from their senior teammates on the sea.
As a result of these events, over the years many young people continue sailing after finishing university and even pursue it as a profession.

This valuable event has always taken place with great enthusiasm until this year.
After attending a similar event in Izmir Urla, I set off from Izmir for the Campus Cup.

On the way, I called the club to find out what time the press boat would go out to sea.
The answer I received left me astounded.

The Turkey University Sports Federation was not permitting the event to take place.
They had also notified the Muğla Governorate, the Coast Guard Command, and the Turkish Sailing Federation of the situation.
p>
Tuesday, April 20, they inform MIYC officials via a phone call on Sunday evening, April 18, that the event scheduled to begin cannot be carried out, and
through an intermediary at that.
The club is stunned. A directive also arrives from the Sailing Federation to the Race Committee about to fly from Istanbul to Marmaris for the race, stating that their duties have been cancelled
just as they were boarding the plane.
The race and protest committee members are also stunned.

The news is immediately spread by the university teams.
Many teams cancel their plans since they had not yet departed for Marmaris.

As soon as the club management receives this news, they begin intensive negotiations with the Turkish Sailing Federation and the Turkish University Sports Federation.
Apparently, the permission obtained from TYF months ago should have also been obtained from the Turkish University Sports Federation for this race.
The club, which for 13 years has been processing its procedures solely through TYF, is in shock.

The previously announced schedule is suddenly removed from the internet. p>
It's unclear who will do what.

The Helmsman Meeting, Rules Seminar and Racing Announced for Tuesday Cannot Be Held.
Students do not attend the opening cocktail that takes place in the evening.

Since the students did not participate in the event, the refreshments on the empty tables cannot find their owners.
The music being played echoes in the empty event area.
After long and arduous negotiations, permission for the race is granted on Tuesday evening.
Everyone feels relieved.
We first see the students participating in Campus Cup at the briefing held on Wednesday, April 21st at 10:00 AM.
The Chief Umpire of the race will be young referee Ezgi Kalaycı.

p>
This practice has become a tradition at Campus Cup. Young referees manage the youth race.
The briefing starts with Ezgi Kalaycı's statements. She explains the rules.

When many university teams couldn't attend due to last-minute news, participation remained at 16 teams.

Whereas this race used to take place every year with participation of at least 30 Boats.

At the end of the briefing, the race committee and a beautiful wind await the youth on the course.
Wearing their specially prepared attire, the 16 boats create elegant scenes on the sea.

Two races take place on the same course during the day.
The youth race so beautifully and create such beautiful scenes.
On the press boat, there is also an observer from the Turkish University Sports Federation who came to Marmaris in haste.
Everything is clear, the event continues from where it left off. p>

The university students are racing on a course where winds between 10-16 knots prevail and small waves gradually show themselves over time.
Route 5 from the MIYC courses is being applied in both races.

After two truly beautiful races, the youth return to Netsel Marina.

In the evening, there is a döner party at the Club facilities.

Relieving the day's stress until late hours, the youth discuss among themselves the commentary on the races and their expectations for tomorrow.

Friday, April 22nd, I’m on the Course with the Committee Boat.
Waiting for wind for a while.

Turns out the committee has always received help from the direction of artist Ferdi Tayfur’s house until today.
The location is the cove next to Yalancıboğaz.
I understand the situation once I board the race committee boat.

When the wind starts blowing above 10 knots from Ferdi Tayfur’s house, Principal Race Officer Ezgi Kalaycı initiates race preparations.
The course is the same again, Course 5 from the Miyc Courses.

If the committee announces this course in the next race as well, I will suggest they set permanent anchors on the course marks. p>

University teams are on the course with all their energy. They are bringing light to the course.
In the first race of the day, the wind is blowing between 8-12 Knots and providing a very nice race.

As the first race ends, preparations for the day’s second race begin.
Route; Miyc Routes 3 A

Without going out to the outer sea, the boats will circle around Keçi Adası, pass in front of İçmeler, and finish in front of Marmaris.

The wind outside is the race committee’s risk. Ferdi Tayfur’s house isn’t there either, hopefully all goes well.
The moment the wind shows 14 Knots, the mass start of the final race is given.
All boats are on the course.

The wind is not decreasing in strength and university students are racing, leaving the waters of Marmaris in their wake.
Just as the boats are approaching the finish line, the wind strength changes. While some are moving away from the finish line with spinnaker, some boats are slowly heading towards the finish line
without setting spinnaker.
At the end of a total of 4 races held over 2 days, planned for 3 days;

After the finishes are recorded and results are announced, the 2022 Nural Bank Campus Cup awards find their owners at the Miyc facilities.

As the fourteenth Campus Cup organized by Miyc comes to an end, preparations for the 15th Campus Cup to be held in 2023 are emerginghtml p>
we wish that future events will be held taking into account the deficiencies and that participation will reach its former numbers.
