Keramos

According to the legends, the name of the city Keram took its name from the founder - Keramos, son of Dionysos and Ariadne. The meaning of the word Keram was ceramics. In Greek language Keramo meaning potter According to strabo, the ancient city of Keramos in Ören was a Greek colony. Most of the city buildings were erected during Roman age, with some evidences of Byzantine age. Keramos was member of Attice-Delos confederation and was paying 1.5 talant as tax.  The city was an important religous center during Byzantine era. Keramos has become the member of Carian Krysaor Alliance. The city was Hellenized in 6th century BC. Ruled by Rhodes in Hellenistic era. The city had formed a confederation with the city of Stratonike. In Roman times the city belonged to the Roman province of Asia Minor but the gradually lost its importance. Most findings are dating from Roma era.
