Loryma

Loryma was built in the 7th century B.C. The city is surrounded by a two-stage wall that dates from the Archaic and Classical periods. In the upper part of the city, some remains of the acropolis and cisterns can be seen. At first Rhodes controlled the city. During the Byzantine era, it was a navy base and the bay was called “The Arsenal” because of the fort guarding the entrance. This was completely destroyed after Arab invasion in the 7th century. A.D. It is well worth climbing to the summit of the fort to enjoy the view. Some of the stone blocks are more than 5 metres long. These blocks were composed with rocks without mortar.
