Heybeliada is the second largest of the Princes' Islands in the Sea of Marmara, located off the southern coastline of Istanbul's Asian side. The horseshoe-shaped bay on the south side, Çam Limanı (Pine Harbor), provides the most adequate sheltering and the best anchorage of all the Princes' Islands.
Approach and Anchoring: Upon entry to the bay, there are sea-level rocks and debris on the western shore. It is essential to keep a safe distance off the shore when approaching. Sufficient depths are available on the eastern side. The depth in the middle is approximately 17 meters and it shelves gradually toward the shore. Anchoring is permitted throughout the bay. Temporary jetties are occasionally constructed and demolished.
Weather Conditions: The bay offers complete protection from northerly winds. Southerly winds, while not directly entering the bay, can push swells in and create some movement.
Shore Features: The beach area in the middle of the bay serves as the island's public beach. The bay is surrounded by pine trees, creating a scenic environment. An asphalt road runs through the bay area and circles the entire island. There are no motorized vehicles on the islands except official vehicles; horse-drawn carriages (fayton) and bicycles are the primary means of transportation.
Notable Buildings: One of the island's most important buildings is the Naval Cadet School, established in 1773. The school's jetty is private property and berthing is not permitted for civilian vessels.
Transportation and Facilities: Regular ferry services operate from the island's northern jetty to various centers in Istanbul. Security, healthcare, and shopping facilities are available on the island. Restaurants, cafes, and shopping centers remain open year-round. A public market takes place every Wednesday on Heybeliada.
