Known by its ancient name "Didyma", appearing on charts as Karakuyu or Altınkum, Didim is a south-facing bay.
It is open to all winds except north. The bottom is sandy.
At the bay entrance, there is a shoal area with debris extending up to 400 meters off the pier on the western shore.
Entry to the bay must be made taking this shoal into consideration.
If approaching the concrete pier to the west, it is strongly advised that those unfamiliar should absolutely not approach the pier directly.
Keep the course toward the middle of the bay, and after passing the shoal in this quite shallow bay, turn toward the pier.
There is a customs building at this pier. Apart from ferries, daily tour and dive boats moor at the pier. This area belongs to them especially during summer months. If mooring in Didim, our recommendation is D-Marin Didim Marina.
One can anchor in the bay. Depths vary between 3-10 meters. Especially during summer months, you can feel the noise of the town inside your boat until late at night. At some points in the anchorage areas, the sea is quite cold, probably due to underground waters.
Didim is a place with abundant historical sites to visit and provisioning facilities.
The historic Temple of Apollo is in Didim. When you anchor, you are in front of the world-famous Altınkum beach.
You can find everything for shopping right on the shore. It is possible to find branches and ATMs of almost all banks in Didim.
Road transport and related airport connections are available. All road travel agencies are located in Didim.
In recent years, it has become a place where British citizens have migrated and settled intensively.
The sea is quite clean, and the humidity rate is quite low. The annual average temperature is 18.4°C, 27.3°C in summer months, the prevailing wind is NW (northwest), the annual average precipitation is 578.1 mm/m2, and the average humidity rate is 62.49%.
