Antiphellos(Kaş)

Antiphellus was a small settlement until the 4th century B.C., when it became the port for Romans and rapidly developed. The theatre dates from the Hellenistic period and has a remarkable view overlooking the sea (the stage is no longer extant). During the Roman era, the city became an important trading centre, exporting wood and sponges.

The necropolis of Antiphellus was located on the NE side of the hill.  One sarcophagus (beyond the theatre, among the olive trees is particularly noteworthy for its Doric characteristics. Another was formed from a single block, and dates from the 4th century B.C. (it’s near the end of post office street in Kaş). The tomb carved in the rocks on the hill west of Kaş is also interesting.
