Çatal Island - Bizans Wreck

It is an island consisting of distinctive hills located 1.5 miles west of Turgutreis. 

There is a light (Fl(4) 20s 6M) on the north of the island. The flat section between the two hills has a beach in front. 

Anchor in 4-6 meters in this section. The southern part of the beach is suitable for anchoring, and even a shore line can be taken from land. The bottom is weedy and sandy.

The meltemi sometimes blows strongly from behind the beach. When a shore line is taken, the vessel is secure. 

The water is very clean. There is a pier on the south of the beach. When you go ashore, within walking distance, the west coast of the island and open seas are visible. 

From the high hills, you can reach very beautiful views of the area where you are anchored. It is an island for complete relaxation. 

Since Turgutreis is opposite, it is also convenient for provisioning.

To the south of the island are Kuyruk Island and Yassıada. Yassıada hides many old and new wrecks in its waters. Especially in rough weather, they are not noticeable. Among these wrecks, the Byzantine Wreck is exhibited in the Bodrum Underwater Museum after archaeological excavations. There are serious currents in this region.

In the area including Çatal Island, special attention should be paid to night navigation. The debris on the north coast of Çatal Island. It is advisable to navigate carefully around Çobanada, Tüllüceada and Sarıot Islands located southeast of the island, and the surrounding shoals.
