Akyarlar

It is a bay that extends northward between Koca Burun to the east and Akyarlar Burnu, 0.80 miles to the west, on the southwest of the Bodrum Peninsula. It is 3 miles from the opposite Kos Island.

When approaching Akyarlar, attention must be paid to Paşa Kayalıkları to the west and the shoals extending 200 meters offshore in the middle of the peninsula ending at Koca Burun to the east.

There is a fishing shelter on the shore. Anchor is dropped on sand at 4-8 meters depth to the east side without obstructing the entrances and exits of this shelter. Depth decreases suddenly towards the shore. Care should be taken when giving chain to the anchor. Anchoring is done in a beautiful, sheltered but narrow area. Many boats stay at anchor, it gets crowded during summer months. It is sheltered from Meltemi but exposed to southerly winds.

One can also anchor and stay in the same manner at the location called Akçabük Bay on the west side of the bay, even take a stern-to berth. It is one of the waiting points for boats that will sail north in northerly weather conditions. The sea is clean.

Akyarlar, which was a sponge diver and fishing village in old years, has a 25-berth shelter. This sheltered harbor is operated by the fisheries cooperative (contact 0252-393 80 56). There is 3 meters depth inside the harbor. Boats are also taken stern-to shore outside the harbor breakwater. There are electricity and water connections in the harbor which also has sewage discharge.

The harbor, which is generally full, contains private boats of local sea lovers, daily tour and diving boats.

Diving tours are organized to Kargı Island directly opposite Akyarlar.

From the town which is 22 km to Bodrum and 9 km to Turgutreis, there are regular minibus services to these places, and taxis are available.

In Akyarlar, there are supermarkets that can meet all food-related needs, health center, pharmacies, gendarmerie station, beautiful restaurants, cafes, patisseries, and hotels.

There is a local market on Thursdays. There are also bank ATMs in Akyarlar
