Orak Island

This island lies between Pabuç Burnu and Kara Burun points. The light tower is conspicuous from a distance. An islet, Kıstak Adası, lies to the west. Orak Adası offers two suitable anchorages.

THE NORTHERN ANCHORAGE

36°58'40"N - 27°35'33"E

This anchorage provides good shelter from southerly winds. Anchor in 5-10 meters and take a stern line ashore to the south. The approach is clear of obstructions. Reefs extend from the western shore. Olive groves cover the slopes.

THE EASTERN ANCHORAGE

36°58'22"N - 27°35'54"E

This anchorage lies on the southeast part of the island. Exercise extreme caution when approaching. A rocky islet lies in the middle of the bay, approximately 300 meters from the island. Submerged rocks extend outward in a 40-meter radius. Give a wide berth.

The northwestern bight offers good shelter from westerly winds. The seabed is sand and rock. Anchor in 4-5 meters. Alternatively, proceed to the southern shore and anchor in 7-12 meters. Excellent swimming conditions. Olive groves line the shores.

ORAK ISLAND DIVING POINT

The southern tip of the island features an exceptional diving site, regarded as a true paradise for divers with its remarkable caves and vibrant sponges. The diving point facing the Gulf of Gökova offers particularly exciting opportunities. At depths of 32-34 metres, divers will discover a cave adorned with purple sponges. This location is highly sought after by experienced divers for its spectacular underwater wall diving, beginning at 25 metres and descending to 65-70 metres from the point onwards. All foreign divers must be accompanied by a licensed Turkish diving guide as required by Turkish maritime regulations.
