Bozukkale

It is a wide bay entered from the north between Kale Burnu and Değirmen Burnu. The bay entrance is difficult to distinguish.

On Kale Burnu, there are the walls of ancient Loryma, but they are not visible from a distance as the rock and castle colors blend together. Enter the bay extending 0.80 miles to the northwest, taking care of the above-water rock located off Kale Burnu. The middle is deep. Some locations along the shore drop to depths suitable for anchoring.

For vessels wishing to anchor, north of the pier in the cove immediately west of the entrance, or the eastern indent located at the end of Bozukkale Bay is suitable. These anchorages are also sheltered from lodos winds. In these locations, one can anchor in 8-12 meters on a bottom of sand and broken shell mixture and make fast stern-to shore.

During days when southerly winds prevail, these locations receive swell.

Bozukkale Bay is surrounded by bare mountains. Winds from these mountains and slopes descend from time to time with squalls. It is correct to anchor our vessel according to winds that may come from the northwest and west directions, which are prevailing during summer months.

There are 3 wooden piers belonging to restaurants in the bay. All three have mooring lines, no need to anchor.  The restaurants attached to the pier are true nature restaurants. Since there is no electricity, electricity needs are met with generators. Generator noise absolutely does not disturb the vessels, their insulation is good. The bread baked in the stone ovens of these restaurants is brought to your vessel by villagers in the mornings.

Bozukkale waters are among the cleanest seas you can see. Towards evening, vessels enter the bay all at once and come alongside the piers. Almost in these quiet bays, pier reservations are even made. The restaurants' needs are supplied from the nearby Bayır village over the mountains via Serçe Limanı. But the fish, fresh and very close by, are from the sea right off Bozukkale...

When staying overnight in the cove on the west side of the entrance, which is the most sheltered cove of Bozukkale, wave sounds can be heard from outside. But your boat doesn't budge from its place. Sleeping while hearing those sounds is priceless. From the pier here, the walls of ancient Loryma on top of the mountain can be reached via a footpath.

The summit commands the open seas, Rhodes Island in the distance, and Bozukkale Cove inland. The view here is unique in the evening and early morning hours. There is no mortar between the large cubic cut stones forming the walls.  It is believed that the fortress was built to protect Rhodes Island. In some charts, this cove is called "Oplosiko Bay". "Hoploteke" means shipyard in Greek. Indeed, there is a rumor that there was a shipyard in this cove in ancient times.

This cove is also a port of call. Especially in rough weather, boats continuing north wait in this cove.
