It is a cove with its mouth opening to the east and curving westward in a bay shape, between Zeytin Burnu and Sarpburun.
The cove, also known as Turunç Bükü, is surrounded by high wooded mountains. Sheltered from the meltemi, the cove occasionally experiences heavy downpours from the mountains.
When approaching the cove from the Zeytinliburun side, 400 meters west of the cape, there is a rock with 1 meter of water over it extending 180 meters from the shore, along with debris extending toward land.
Similarly, at the foot of Sarpburun to the north, debris caused by rock fragments fallen from the high mountain continues to the shore. A small cove is located southeast of Turunç Bükü. At the end of the northern shore of this cove, in the area called Dümbek Burnu, there is an underwater rock extending to 25 meters.
The most sheltered anchorage in the cove is this indentation to the southeast. Swimming safety area buoys are located in front of the magnificent 750-meter beach of Turunç Cove. The same buoys are also present in front of the large hotel in the southeastern cove.
Underwater telecommunication cables are laid in the area near the northern part of the beach. The line over these cables is marked with three yellow buoys. One of them is also equipped with a flasher.
A stream flows into the sea from the south of Turunç beach. At the long concrete pier starting from this point, there are Turunç-Marmaris shuttle boats and Turunç excursion boats. Daily excursion boats dock at a large portion of this area and disembark their passengers at Turunç. This pier becomes very crowded especially during the summer season.
Since this pier is a place where tour boats dock between 11:00-17:00 hours, outside these hours stern-to mooring can be made at the pier operated by the municipality (Contact, Municipality: 0252-476 79 40 - 41 – 42). The area in front of the pier has silty bottom and does not hold anchor well. Considerable scope must be given to the anchor dropped at 10-12 meters. Electricity and water are available at the pier.
Turunç is a highly developed holiday resort. Its large shopping centers, diverse restaurants, cafes, and bars are countless. It has a health clinic, gendarmerie station, laundry, health center, ambulance, pharmacy, and bank ATMs.
There are very beautiful spots in the Turunç region where scuba diving boats conduct dives. In Turunç, there are agencies organizing jeep safari and diving tours. On Mondays, a local market is set up in Turunç.
Turunç has very beautiful hotels and guesthouses. There are even many jewelry stores in the town.
It is reached by a 20-kilometer road to Marmaris. The journey, winding from the mountaintops to the coast while witnessing magnificent views, takes 40 minutes. There are regular minibus services in winter and summer. Taxis are available. Additionally, there is a 50-minute sea transportation service with small boats between Marmaris and Turunç. These boats also stop at İçmeler at certain times.
Turunç, which also has a water sports center, is a complete holiday resort and is highly preferred.
When visiting the town, one must definitely go to the tea garden under the giant eucalyptus trees by the azmak.
