Loryma was established in the 7th century B.C. as an ancient city. The city walls date back to the Archaic and Classical periods.

In the upper section of the fortress, remains of the acropolis and cisterns can be found. Initially, the city was under Rhodian control. Later, during the Byzantine era, it became a naval base. During this period, the bay was known as "The Arsenal" due to the fortress guarding its entrance. The city was destroyed during the Arab invasion in the 7th century A.D.

Upon ascending to the fortress area, you are greeted with a magnificent view. Some sections of the fortress walls exceed 5 meters in length. The stone blocks were constructed without mortar.
