Fethiye Gulf - Ölü Deniz

Under this heading; we will cover the sheltered coves and harbors in the region encompassing Çığlık Cove (36°42'45"N - 29°00'01"E) on the northern shore of Fethiye Gulf in the west and Ölüdeniz (36°33'20"N - 29°04'04"E) in the east.

It is one of the busiest regions of the Mediterranean Region in terms of yacht tourism. The coasts are surrounded by high mountains, and Baba Mountain at 2,000 meters altitude in the east of the region is like a great landmark at the end of the region we will cover.

Mountains descending perpendicular to the sea create deep waters. The areas off Fethiye Gulf and Ölüdeniz are exposed to westerly and southerly winds and waves. The coves whose sheltering conditions we will describe are points relatively protected from the prevailing southwesterly winds in the region.

The depths offshore create safe anchorage areas in the coves only at points close to the shore. The coves are generally covered with pine forests and olive trees.

The region is full of world-renowned historical sites. Road transportation, airline facilities, Aegean Islands ferryboat services are at the best level that should exist in a tourism region. There are even rental car, taxi, and even aircraft rental opportunities. Paragliding and rafting are the region's most recognized and widespread sports.

In the region, no problems are experienced in terms of security and health intervention.

In addition to the sheltered coves, Fethiye Municipality, with its Marinas, yacht equipment stores and technical workshops, meets the needs. It is also a port of entry and exit with customs.

The facilities of the coves do not follow a specific pattern, they are all different. Therefore, you can learn the details from the relevant pages when determining the days and points of your voyages.

In the region, the Mediterranean climate prevails, with hot and dry summers and mild and rainy winters. The temperature, which is around 30 degrees in summer months, is generally above 10 degrees in winter. Sea water temperature never falls below 16 degrees in any season.

Generally, very strong winds are not encountered. West and northwest prevailing summer winds rise towards noon and lose their effect before sunset.

In the region, which is the center of yacht tourism, many companies provide services in this field.

Although the region is not very dense in terms of shallows, there are points to be considered on the north coast of Fethiye Bay, in the islands area, and around Ölüdeniz Karacaören Island. Again, it is useful to make passages from offshore, taking into account possible debris in the extensions of the capes.

Locations to be considered;

1)   The rock and debris half a meter above water, 150 meters from the east side of Katrancı Bay.

2)   Underwater debris extending 60-70 meters offshore in front of Uzun Cape.

3)   Debris with 2 meters of water over them, spreading over a 30-40 meter area, a quarter mile northeast of Tavşan Island. To the west of these, there is a yellow cardinal west buoy (36°40'4"N-29°01'5"E).

4)   İzkayası Shoal: 2 miles west of Tavşan Island, with 4-6 meters of water over it (36°40'4\"N-29°5'.4\"E).

5)   Balık Rock: 2.5 miles east of Tavşan Island and half a meter above water. (36°40'2"N-29°05'3"E)

6)   The rocky area and debris west of Karacaören Island.

The region is a place with many options in terms of diving tourism. Many diving schools based in Fethiye organize daily and weekly tours to over 20 diving spots.

Underwater visibility is very good in the region. Bottom structures offer different and colorful options. Caves, walls, and wrecks offer unforgettable sights to those who want to dive.

Afkule and Turkish Bath, Balaban Island, Sarıyarlar (Denizatı Bay), İblis Cape, Turunç Pınarı, Barracuda Reef, Üç Tüneller (Small Reef), Barracuda Reef, Gülleler, Aircraft Engine are some of the diving sites.

On weekly diving tours, you also have the opportunity to dive at all of these magnificent diving sites.
