Marmaris Region

The area we will cover under the heading of Marmaris comprises the sheltered locations between Kadırga Burnu (36°43'8"N-28°18'E) and Kütük Burnu (36°47'31"N-28°18'61"E), located southeast of Yıldız(Nimara) Island.

In the region, there are beautiful coves nestled among high mountains generally covered with forests. The depths in the coves are considerable. When approaching the shores, they provide reliable anchorage opportunities. There are some debris, albeit minimal, on the extensions of the headlands separating the coves.

There are no sheltering problems in the region where prevailing winds blow from northwest and north directions. Squalls occasionally descend from the high mountains covered with pine and olive trees. During spring and autumn seasons, southwesterly winds start, and precautions should be taken in these anchorages and especially inside Marmaris Port.

All the facilities of Marmaris, an important center of Turkish Tourism, can be utilized from the coves within the region.

With the exception of one or two pristine locations, all coves have land transportation access. There are no problems regarding shopping, health, security, boat supplies, maintenance-repair, diving, water sports, air and land transportation facilities, hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants; options are abundant.

The coves with clear and clean waters are heavily used by daily tour boats during the busy months of the tourism season. Those who wish to enjoy these beautiful coves peacefully should choose times outside the 10:30-16:30 hours.

Since Marmaris is an important center for yacht tourism, it has adequate sheltering facilities with 4 marinas, large quays, and docks.

In Marmaris, there are numerous boat sales and charter companies, companies organizing sea tours, water sports centers, and diving schools and boats.

Marmaris is a region where international yacht, sailing, and underwater imaging competitions are frequently held.

The climate, as seen in all settlements along Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean coastal strip, is sunny for a long period of the year. It is possible to swim in the sea from the beginning of April until the end of October.

In January and February, the weather is generally overcast and rainy, but the sun shows itself from time to time. In March and December, sunny and overcast days are almost equal. In April, generally clear and partly cloudy weather is observed.

Rainy days are not lacking either. May is clear and partly cloudy. The number of rainy days is very few. June, July, August, September are clear. October is generally clear, with few overcast and rainy days. In November, the number of sunny days is greater than the number of overcast and rainy days.

In the region, there are historical sites and ruins. In fact, the region is built upon historical areas and their traces can be found almost everywhere.

Marmaris is also an important center for diving tourism. Scuba diving activities continue in both summer and winter seasons. Diving is conducted at 52 different locations in the region. Some of these are:

Sarı Mehmet Cape, Keçi Island Light, İnce Burun Light, Hayıtlı Cape, Abdi Reis Cove, Yazih Rock, Baca Cave, Aksu Cove:, Kütük Cape, Kadırga Cove.
